Guerrilla Girls is an anonymous group of feminist artists, formed in New York City in 1985 with the mission of bringing gender and racial inequality into focus. The intention of anonymity keeps the focus on the issues instead of the individual identities, so the artists wear gorilla masks in public and use facts, humor and outrageous visuals to expose gender and ethnic bias as well as corruption in politics, art, film, and pop culture. The practice of Guerrilla Girls is not only guerrilla interventions, and also any form of projects at museums and galleries such as Tate Modern and Whitechapel Gallery and many other places.
