About the artist
Yayoi Kusama is an important artist in Japan nowadays. In the 1960s Kusama rose to prominence through a series of pop performances and monochrome paintings in New York. Kusama has continued to develop an expansive and prolific practice, cultivating her specific visual lexicon after she returned to Japan in 1970s. In her works, intricate nets are often seen, pumpkins and dots are her most important elements. This vitality and unique style also established Kusama as a pioneer in contemporary art. The works by Kusama are now housed in public collections worldwide.
